9:00 am - 9:10 am Opening Remarks from Conference Chairperson

9:10 am - 9:50 am Building an Industrialized CI CD Pipeline to Enhance Development Efficiency

After a massive transition into agile and DevOps across ANZ, ANZ has now worked with google to industrialize the pipeline. This has provided a scalable solution, backed by the cloud which and enabled automation of governance. In this session:

  • Building the CICD as a service/ factory for CICD/ containership for containerships
  • How this has taken advantage of economies of scale, requires less engineers
  • How the industrialized pipeline has been utilised to automate governance, protecting the organization

9:50 am - 10:30 am How Atlassian are Utilising DevOps and the P-a-a-S to Improve Products

Over the past 5 years, Atlassian have invested DevOps to the point where DevOps practices are ubiquitous across all cloud teams. As more of the traditionally server-based enterprise customers are migrating to the cloud, DevOps is the key for maintaining agility while continuing to increase reliability, compliance controls and security. In this session Jonathon will share:

  • How investment in a solid PaaS has improved velocity to release product features and take the pain out of meeting compliance standards and raising the bar on security
  • The challenges faced and lessons learnt in transforming traditionally software-only teams to embrace a You Build It, You Run It culture
  • How Atlassian have matured incident management practices, blameless post-mortems and techops to become part of every team’s agile practice

Speaker:

10:30 am - 11:00 am Morning Tea

11:00 am - 11:40 am DevelOping a Maturity Framework for DevOps In-house at Tabcorp

Many organisations face the challenge of inconsistency of devOps maturity across the technology department. Tabcorp had intended to work within DORA’s platform to assess maturity, but the recent purchase by Google has meant the organization has had to innovate and create a unique maturity framework. In this session Ryan will share:

  • The journey of piecing together information from DORA, Puppet and others to generate a holistic view of maturity
  • How the framework has been shaped around the organization
  • How teams have been able to implement and benefit from the framework, to date

11:40 am - 12:20 pm Installing and Scaling DevOps in a Risk Averse Environment

The DevOps journey at ASX has enabled IT to jump ahead a few decades in a very short space of time. Having now largely cleared existing technical debt and developed a pipeline, the DevOps team are now moving onto Greenfields projects, such as Chess Replacement, which is paying dividends through making the benefits of DevOps visible throughout the organization. In this session:

  • Overcoming the challenges of driving DevOps from the ground up; building a safe space for developers to experiment to ensure tools released to business are effective
  • Enabling standardization and scalability of DevOps by establishing a community of practice which provides guidelines for developers of many languages
  • Preparing for the next stage of DevOps development- using dashboards to enhance the developer environment and moving into google cloud

12:20 pm - 1:00 pm Overcoming Capability Gaps to Enhance DevOps Maturity and Move Towards 100% Automation

Often the challenge with maturing the DevOps practice can be varying levels of capability between different elements. In this session hear a case study of a team that had some microservice architecture but low CI/CD maturity. Vincent will discuss how the right tools were put in place (kubernetes) and coordination with Architecture and Security departments to provide a platform to move towards CI/CD and DevOps practices and closer to 100% automation:

  • As a leader, acting as the link between Cloud Engineers, Software Engineers, Technical testers and the business to improve DevOps practice
  • Selecting the right tools for the team, and the job
  • The beginning of the automation journey, challenges that arose on the way

2:00 pm - 2:40 pm Creating a Fit-for-Purpose DevOps Model for the Organisation

After EB Games adapted the worldwide model for DevOps adoption to suit the idiosyncrasies of the Australian business they’ve been able to run tech 150% cheaper and increase release velocity by 120%. In this session hear from Head of Technology, Kevin Clarke:

  • Delivering the importance of the technology transformation to the business, and how messaging from tech and business has become more similar as DevOps matures
  • Building a DevOps culture around what staff actually want from their roles
  • How avoiding the attraction of ‘shiny new things’ and knowing when to use more traditional solutions like databases can save money, integration and time

2:40 pm - 3:20 pm Utilising DevOps to Streamline Operations and Transform Legacy Systems

As TAFE NSW moved from the Department of Education to the Department of Industry, legacy systems and applications needed to be overhauled and formalized. Use of DevOps enabled TAFE NSW to be able to transform these apps in a matter of months, with multiple projects running simultaneously. In this session DevOps Lead Kumaresh will share insight into utilizing Greenfields DevOps in a government organization:

  • Transforming legacy systems through DevOps and formalizing tooling, while allowing developers to continue using their desired tools
  • The process of adapting the Spotify puppet model for some of the applications
  • Overcoming challenges around resourcing and support for DevOps
  • Installing end to end automation within the cloud data center

3:20 pm - 4:00 pm Afternoon tea

4:00 pm - 4:40 pm Improving DevOps and Business Efficiency Through AI and ML

As AI and ML become increasingly more important components for applications, more pressure will exist to ensure they are part of an organization’s DevOps model. The challenge is in bringing disparate AI/ML teams and DevOps teams together to implement an application pipeline specific to AI/ML. In this session:

  • Utilising AI to analyse the CI pipeline and know where to make improvements
  • Applying AI/ML to threat detection to flag anomalies faster and enable the DevOps team to be more proactive than reactive
  • Utilising AI to analyse of large amounts of data and bring value to the organisation

In this session Natalie will explore the issues she’s had to overcome in setting the DevOps mindset for the organization and implementing the Belong version of DevOps:

  • How do you ensure the organization has the right mindset and how do you measure and manage this culture?
  • Overcoming the challenges of working with a combination of P-a-a-S and customer built tools
